International 'Go Skateboarding' Day at Stokeplaza- Wednesday 21st June 2006

Thinking that 'Go Skateboarding' day would be a good day to hold a bit of a bash at the plaza AND the fact that when I decided to put it on we were gripped by a mini heatwave, little did I think that the weather would be our ususal 'outdoor' event conditions! All started well, in the morning, up to around 2pm (which was the official 'kick-off' time), then the clouds started to brew! You guessed it, after a short while it started to rain. Luckily we did get some good skating in and a couple of comps etc to make sure we defied the elements and had a good time regardless!

If you were there early- you were probably lucky enough to catch the Santa Cruz euro team checking out the plaza and busting out some amazing stuff. They absolutely loved the place and made sure they got a session in before heading off to Wales, where they should of been much earlier but the plaza was calling!!! They should of done a demo the night before but was cancelled due to the rain, so it was great to see them skating there after all. Cheers lads- hope you enjoyed it. (See clips below!)

Marc Churchill- backside 50 down the big ledge.

Flo Marfang- kickflip nose manny down the big ledge.

Mark Hall- swith frontside flip over the curved rail.
John Winter- backside flip over the curved rail.

As for our 'Go Skateboarding' event, we set up a couple of 'comps' for fun and for some proddy (donated by the very kind folks at Death, Document Magazine, Kingpin Magazine, Casual Skateboards, Globe, Clone and Dazed Skateshop). The first one was on the top block, where Clone's Mike Smith took the top prize with a nollie pop-shuv to manny, flip out! Nice one Mike. Runners up included Simple's Ian Williams, Jed Cauldwell and Gareth.

The next comp we set up, after a short shower, was on the 3x3 sets. Ian Williams took the prize here, after some amazing stuff went down. Ian won with a frontside nollie over the curved rail into the bank! Runners up were Gareth, with a array of tricks, Jed Cauldwell and John Winter.

After that the rain really came down and brought an end to the evnt. God fun while it lasted and we will fight another day and hopefully we can hold it again next year. For all those who attended, supported, sponsored and helped tidy up an DJ etc- A massive thanks!!!

Mark.

A comp winner!! Ian Williams- frontside nollie 180 over the curved rail.
Ian Williams- nollie heels over the curved rail.
