After the wettest June and July, I can ever remember (and that's quite a few!!), my fears were for the worst for the visit of the Toy Machine team. I imagined another write off day due to rain. How wrong could I have been?! Well hot and lasted all day- perfect!
The team arrived at the plaza around 3pm after a hectic shop signing session at Dazed. First on the plaza were Johnny Layton and Ed Templeton. They cruised around, checking the place out. Straight off Ed T popped a big backside ollie off the steep banks and Johnny Layton flowed a backside wallride on the bank off the 4 & 5 round-sets!! They dished these out as if they were rolling round (as they were!!) on a couple of the hardest to master obstacles on the plaza! We were in for a treat!
As these things tend to do, naturally. The Pier-7 hip got the session started with the team dishing out some really good stuff. Ed T- legend, was warming up nice- big ollie transfer to f/s lip on the block! Josh Harmony- nice 270 alleyoop and hitting the block with 50-50's and a f/s 5-0 270 out. Johnny Layton defied gravity with his unnatural pop! F/s airs, melons and tailgrabs- Awesome! |

The small 3-set at the bottom of the big-3 was next to get sessioned where we witnessed some well good techy stuff! Matt Bennett landed a 180 fakie nosegrind 180 out! Johnny Layton krooked over the 3-set and then went for the whole ledge and got it!
Meanwhile Ed T- landed an ollie to block to lip transfer on the next block!
Josh Harmony sessioned the 9-set rail, landing a 50-50, 5-0, f/s smith and lipslide. |
Down to the bottom of the plaza and Austin Stephens was checking out the big long ledge- nice 5-0 all the way along! Josh Harmony- fakie 50-50 f/s half-cab out!
Of course no demo is complete without a 'big-3' or 'gap-big2' session! They didn't disappoint. Josh Harmony sized the 'gap-2' with a fakie ollie first go and Johnny Layton satisfied the crowd with his signature switch tre-flip!!
After a few photos with the crowd and more signings, the team went for ice cream and then off to Manchester for street spot photos! Skate machines!!!
Thanks Toy Machine for taking the time to come and visit Stokeplaza- hope you enjoyed it- we did!! |
