'STOKEPLAZA' at Central Forest Park, Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, England - is a reality!

The 'official opening ceremony' took place at 11am on Friday 28th October 2005 and the 'opening jam' took place on Sunday 30th October 2005.

'STOKEPLAZA' is, arguably, the largest and most original skateplaza's in Europe (34000 square feet!), here in Stoke-on-Trent. Around £500,000 has been put forward, by Stoke-on-Trent City Council (with the financial support from Sport England, Staffordshire Environmental Fund, Advantage West Midlands, Government Office for the West Midlands), to match the dreams and aspirations of the SAS, to have a skate facility to be proud of and put the city on the map!

The infrastructure of 'Central Forest Park' has had a major overhaul which has seen the building of the footpaths, car parks, adventure playgrounds, cycle paths and 'climbing rocks' etc. Included in an earlier phase, saw the building of the SKATEPATHS (Spring '05). These 'off-shoots' from the main pedestrian pathways have been built as 'skate-friendly zones'! Obstacles include a 3-set with straight ledges, a 4-set with hubbas and a rail, a double set of 2 & 3 with a double-kinked rail and double-kinked ledges and a flat land area with benches and rails. Also, on the second path, a 6-set with hubbas and rail, leading to two banked/snake-run areas, also with a couple of benches. We tried to create a 'skate-spot' feeling with these areas and tried to vary the obstacles with most of it not in the plaza. We have tried to cover every aspect of street skating within the plaza AND the paths.
